On Being Boring

I moved from London to Brussels with my husband nearly 10 years ago. When I told people we were moving, the news was greeted with bemusement: why did we want to move to a city that was possibly the most boring place on earth? Ten years later and I can honestly say that I've had more fun here than I ever did living in London. It might not be the most exciting city in the world but it is a fantastic place to live. It is full of hidden treasures that you probably never get to see as a tourist: wonderful shops, amazing food, great museums and galleries, beautiful architecture, a forest (yes, a whole forest), and so much more... And if that doesn't convince you, well, get on a train and you could be in Paris, Amsterdam, Cologne or, yes, London in no more than a couple of hours... Which other city can you say that about?

Travel Dreams

Blog every day in May, day 10: If you could go anywhere in the world right now where would it be?

If I could go anywhere, I’d go right here, home.

What? I can’t pick that? Oh. Why though? Pfft! Fine. I’ll start again.

If I could go anywhere, I’d go somewhere where I have family because that feels like home.

I’m not a good traveller. But I do love seeing the world. I’m lucky enough to have been sent East to India, West to the States and South to Brazil for work. I’ve been all over Europe and every place I’ve visited I’ve wanted to call home. Last year, we visited San Fransisco and Seattle and we loved them both so much we’re going back next year. I still want to go to Lisbon and Prague. I want to go back to New York and Barcelona, with Charlie and Amélie in tow this time. At some point, I want to pluck up the courage to fly all the way to New Zealand. I honestly couldn’t pick the one place I want to visit above all others. There are so many amazing things to see on this big old globe of ours – and so many amazing people to visit. Isn’t it about time someone invented a teleportation device.

(pictures from our most recent TRAVELS – see there is a link! It’s not just me randomly posting some pictures because I’ve finally got round to editing them. Not at all! These are from our trip to the UK at Easter. So there!)
