On Being Boring

I moved from London to Brussels with my husband nearly 10 years ago. When I told people we were moving, the news was greeted with bemusement: why did we want to move to a city that was possibly the most boring place on earth? Ten years later and I can honestly say that I've had more fun here than I ever did living in London. It might not be the most exciting city in the world but it is a fantastic place to live. It is full of hidden treasures that you probably never get to see as a tourist: wonderful shops, amazing food, great museums and galleries, beautiful architecture, a forest (yes, a whole forest), and so much more... And if that doesn't convince you, well, get on a train and you could be in Paris, Amsterdam, Cologne or, yes, London in no more than a couple of hours... Which other city can you say that about?

19 July 2012 - 7:34 PM melissa - Adorable. Emma has just watched this five times in a row. She'd like to note that: - Amelie is quite a good jump roper - Those shoes are Twinkle Toes (which we love), aren't they? - Emma loves to jump rope AND has Twinkle Toes as well, but "Amelie's feet are bigger". ;-) xoxo

19 July 2012 - 7:49 PM Cass - Haha! Yes, those are Twinkle Toes shoes and yes Amélie's feet are big! Oh I so want to meet Emma. Tell her that Amélie's little brother, Charlie, also has VERY BIG feet. You can see them peeking out in this picture: or staring in these pictures: - I think their big feet might mean they are going to be tall when they grow up. Ask her if she's ever noticed how puppies that are going to become very big dogs have very big paws. I think it's the same with my children: they already have their grown-up feet. Now they just need to grow into them! So, how big are your feet Emma? Do you think you're going to be really tall when you grow up too? Are your mummy and daddy big? Are they like big New York skyscrapers? Or maybe not quite that tall? Do you think you'll be taller than them when you grow up? I think Charlie and Amélie will be taller than me. But then I'm not all that tall. Loads of love xxx

19 July 2012 - 10:23 PM amanda - ohhh I LOVE the processing in this. And the video matches. Did you process this in lr4?? I might have to get it!!!! love love it.

20 July 2012 - 5:09 PM Cass - Amanda: yes, processed with LR4 but not with the same settings as the pictures... Now I just have to figure out how to use iMovie so it doesn't take me half a day just to delete 10 seconds off the end of a clip, because although you can do that really easily in LR, I don't seem to be able to export the shortened version. So annoying.

20 July 2012 - 8:09 AM Amélie - Love the colors!! And it's so funny that Amélie seems to want to remove her second shoe rather than putting back the other one :D

20 July 2012 - 5:06 PM Cass - Yes Amélie: both of my children have inherited my aversion to shoes. We'd much prefer not to have to wear them!
