On Being Boring

I moved from London to Brussels with my husband nearly 10 years ago. When I told people we were moving, the news was greeted with bemusement: why did we want to move to a city that was possibly the most boring place on earth? Ten years later and I can honestly say that I've had more fun here than I ever did living in London. It might not be the most exciting city in the world but it is a fantastic place to live. It is full of hidden treasures that you probably never get to see as a tourist: wonderful shops, amazing food, great museums and galleries, beautiful architecture, a forest (yes, a whole forest), and so much more... And if that doesn't convince you, well, get on a train and you could be in Paris, Amsterdam, Cologne or, yes, London in no more than a couple of hours... Which other city can you say that about?

Montgomeryfest

Have I told you about Montgomeryfest yet? Yes I have as it happens. I mentioned it as one of my favourite blogs in a post a few months ago. But that was before I met the lovely people behind the blog. Because you see, they live in Brussels. Or at least they do for now. Of course, now we’ve met them and fallen in love with them, they’re leaving. That’s what happens when you meet amazing people in Brussels. They leave. We are a city of transients. Or maybe it’s me. Maybe after meeting me, people just want to run as far away as possible. Sob! And so we try to make the most the little time we do have. Which in this case meant lounging by the lakes of Ixelles, chatting about everything and nothing, eating smelly cheese and fresh bread, watching Charlie and Amélie running around in the warmth of the setting sun, and taking pictures… It was perfect. And now I can introduce you to the real Montgomeryfest…I plan to take more pictures of these two before they leave. Possibly involving a wedding dress. Watch this space…
