On Being Boring

I moved from London to Brussels with my husband nearly 10 years ago. When I told people we were moving, the news was greeted with bemusement: why did we want to move to a city that was possibly the most boring place on earth? Ten years later and I can honestly say that I've had more fun here than I ever did living in London. It might not be the most exciting city in the world but it is a fantastic place to live. It is full of hidden treasures that you probably never get to see as a tourist: wonderful shops, amazing food, great museums and galleries, beautiful architecture, a forest (yes, a whole forest), and so much more... And if that doesn't convince you, well, get on a train and you could be in Paris, Amsterdam, Cologne or, yes, London in no more than a couple of hours... Which other city can you say that about?

France 2013 – Woot Woot!

I love seeing my brothers and their families. A lot. I try not to tell them too much though because it would embarrass them (they are my father’s sons afterall). So I wait and do it online instead. Where everyone and their neighbour can see what I have to say. I’m great, I know. You can thank me later.

Charlie found a toy gun. Charlie is not allowed to play with guns because I don’t like the idea of guns being thought of as toys. But I couldn’t get this one off him (and of course he instinctively knew to point it at people and shout BANG. How? How?!). When I caught him pointing the thing at his little cousin, I had a serious word with him and told him I didn’t want to see him aiming it at people again. So he wandered off to shoot the dog. He got a bit of a ticking off for that too, though, so he decided to apologise.

The weather was beautiful. But all of the paddling pools we visited somehow managed to defy physics and remain ice-cold. Amélie, however, is impervious to cold and spent a good chunk of her time practicing her swimming and turning blue.

29 August 2013 - 10:21 PM erin - ;) claire would have great fun with charlie... because not only does she shoot, she also falls down dead.

19 September 2013 - 2:23 AM amelia - I love all these photos! And the whole Charlie with a gun thing, so uncanny. We do not allow guns, or weapons either really. However naturally for Felix once he hit around 2.5 everything he picked up including his fingers became guns which he would point and say pew pew. The weird part, he has never watched real TV (we have netflix where we closely monitor what they watch. So I know he had never even seen a gun! It must be in their blood.
