On Being Boring

I moved from London to Brussels with my husband nearly 10 years ago. When I told people we were moving, the news was greeted with bemusement: why did we want to move to a city that was possibly the most boring place on earth? Ten years later and I can honestly say that I've had more fun here than I ever did living in London. It might not be the most exciting city in the world but it is a fantastic place to live. It is full of hidden treasures that you probably never get to see as a tourist: wonderful shops, amazing food, great museums and galleries, beautiful architecture, a forest (yes, a whole forest), and so much more... And if that doesn't convince you, well, get on a train and you could be in Paris, Amsterdam, Cologne or, yes, London in no more than a couple of hours... Which other city can you say that about?

Fordingbridge – March 2013 (day1)

The first day we were there, I found the girls playing upstairs. The afternoon light was shining through the windows. I really really wanted to grab a few shots. Luckily, they agreed to grant me five minutes of their time (really no more) before running off again to find their next adventure (which, as it turns out, was sweeping the drive and then playing football in t-shirts in the near freezing temperatures). I couldn’t decide how I wanted to edit these, so I edited each of them differently. I think I probably prefer the one on the right, but I’m really not sure.If I’d had more time to think about this (or if I’d been a better photographer), I would probably have had Lily scootch over to the left of the bed for these pictures so that her feet would have been pointing in towards the picture rather than off towards the edge. Ah well. Luckily, she’s too pretty to take a bad picture. That small brown blurry blob just above the cat’s head? That’s Charlie. I honestly did try to take as many pictures of him as I did of Amélie, but he moves too fast. This, for instance, was meant to be a really sweet picture of Charlie kissing the cat, but by the time I’d crouched down, he was off.

Day 2 is on it’s way soon!
